Use Case analysis is a very simple tool which can help customers to understand the capabilities that their system needs to provide as well as identifying the stakeholders of the system.
Use cases are also a useful way to organise requirements. While it is a simple technique there are few pitfalls which should be avoided. Use cases are not a substitute for functional analysis nor should they try to convey the internal structure of the system.
